Worked answers for the 14 revised practice sheets. These answers belong to this LearningHaven edition; several questions differ from the archived test.
- About 3 feet is the most reasonable of these options. Real desks vary; no exact measurement is given.
- 911 − 287 = 624 miles, which rounds to 600 miles.
- 36 exactly; about 40 to the nearest ten.
- 13. Twelve boxes hold 600, leaving 20 cards for another box.
- Estimate: 2,400. Exact: 24 × 99 = 2,376 spaces.
- $14.85 rounds to $15.
- 4,295 counters; rounded, 4,300.
- 2,212 visits; rounded, 2,200.
- 250 additional cards: 500 desired − 250 already owned. The old answer key incorrectly selected 500 additional items.
- 960 ÷ 30 = 32 folders.
- 264 discs; rounded, 260.
- 30 × 5 = 150 counters. This replaces an unsuitable fish-stocking scenario.
- 110 × $1,500 = $165,000. This is receipts, before any costs.
- 10% is $180. $1,800 − $180 = $1,620.
- $1,620 × 0.065 = $105.30. This is not a statement of any current tax rate.
- 10½ = 10¼ + ¼; more directly, 10.5 + 2.75 = 13.25 = 13¼.
- 67 × 2/3 = 44⅔, so at least 45 votes are needed.
- 3½ − ¾ = 3¼ + ¼ − ¾ = 2¾ hours. Equivalently, 3.50 − 0.75 = 2.75. The old answer key was wrong.
- (68 + 71 + 66 + 67) ÷ 4 = 272 ÷ 4 = 68.
- The total is $10.32, leaving $4.68.
- $3 + (15 × $0.50) = $10.50.
- 35 + 15 − 5 + 17 = 62 yards gained.
- 14 boxes: 13 hold 156, and a fourteenth holds the final four.
- Prices per pound are about $1.7143, $2.10, $2.00, and $1.925. The 16 oz package has the highest unit price. The old question was ambiguous and its answer key was incorrect.
- $20 + ($4 × 8) = $52.
- 175 × 2.25 = 393.75 miles; rounded, about 400.
- Joe: 90; Kay: 80; LaGreta: 100; Cindy: 100. Kay has the shortest time.
- 40 × 27 = 1,080 square feet.
- A = πr² ≈ 3.14 × 21² = 1,384.74, or 1,385 square feet.
- 83 × $0.50 = $41.50.
- 100. Read the labeled scale and intervening marks rather than guessing from the angle alone.
- C = πd ≈ 3.14 × 18 = 56.52, or 56.5 inches.
- May. Treat this as a classroom graph, not verified historical sales data.
- About $16,000; the question asks for an estimate from the graph.
- ½ × 10 × 5 = 25 square meters.
- 3.14 × 8 = 25.12, or 25.1 feet.
- February. Compare the two lines at the labeled month.
- $280,000 − $80,000 = $200,000. These explicit values replace an overly precise question about a coarse graph.
- 30 + 30 + 90 + 43 + 21 + 162 + 25 = 401 miles.
- 5 hours 85 minutes = 6 hours 25 minutes.
- 800 × 11/16 = 550 km. The old schematic is illustrative, not a claim about actual road distances.
- $4.50 + $3.99 + $1.25 + $2.50 = $12.24.
- 12:15 a.m. on January 1. This replaces the inaccurate and dated Y2K question.
- 4 + 5/8 = 4.625 inches. The old image cannot be measured reliably after arbitrary screen or print resizing.
- Interest = $1,200 × 0.05 = $60. Total = $1,260. This is an arithmetic model with no fees or compounding.
- 18 + 20 = 38. The explicit table replaces an unverified animal-behavior claim.
- 600 × 3/5 = 360. This is a stated assumption, not a current survey result.
- 1,250 × 1,000 = 1,250,000. An explicit value replaces the ambiguous historical answer choices; no real census claim is made.
- $40 ÷ $200 × 100 = 20%.
- 25% + 13% = 38%.
- Liter measures volume. Meter measures length and gram measures mass. Container sizes differ by place.
- The cylinder, B, has three times the cone’s volume: πr²h compared with ⅓πr²h.
- 4/7, since four of the seven counters are white.
- Rectangular prism. The old test offered “rectangle,” a two-dimensional shape, instead of the appropriate solid.
- 40 × ½ = 20 minutes.
- Sorted: 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, 5.9, 6.0. The middle (fourth) value is 5.7.
- (4 × 20 + 15) ÷ 5 = 95 ÷ 5 = 19 points.
- 1st Street and 2nd Street. The drawn lines keep the same direction and do not meet.
- $431.87 + $268.32 − $156.45 − $86.19 − $197.92 = $259.63.
- The decrease is $5.90. $5.90 ÷ $59 × 100 = 10%.
- About $0.0883, $0.0746, and $0.0792 per ounce respectively. The 24 oz package has the lowest unit price.
- B. Folding across the indicated horizontal line matches the two halves of the drawn capital H.
