  1. Start with $20 and earn $4 per hour for eight hours. Write an expression and calculate the total.

  2. In a fictional constant-speed model, an object travels 175 miles per hour for 2¼ hours. Find the distance and round to the nearest hundred miles.

  3. Convert these times to minutes. Who has the shortest time?

  4. Find the floor area of a rectangle measuring 40 ft by 27 ft.

Answers and explanations
  1. $20 + ($4 × 8) = $52.
  2. 175 × 2.25 = 393.75 miles; rounded, about 400.
  3. Joe: 90; Kay: 80; LaGreta: 100; Cindy: 100. Kay has the shortest time.
  4. 40 × 27 = 1,080 square feet.
